OUGD504 - Design For Print: Info-pack Research

To start off my research for this brief, I looked into info-packs, what they are, and what format they could potentially take.

A book
The easiest way to put a large amount of information across is by using a book/publication of some kind. The use of chapters and pagination is something which is easy to navigate around and there can be a lot of different information in a small amount of space. The example of a book above is one that I like because of the minimal use of colour and clean layout of this page. The red on white is striking and the black text gives formality and presents the information clearly.

Foldouts
A foldout is also a good possibility for an info-pack. It is something that can seem small, but once opened, hold a large amount of information, displayed in an interesting and dynamic way. The foldout above is something I like because it isn't a typical foldout. It is a foldout within a booklet which is something that is different and interesting to me. This allows for more information and more specific information depending on where it is placed within the booklet. The use of stock is also something to take into consideration.

Poster set
As set of posters is a different way of displaying the information, which will make me think creatively in how to make a poster full of information and keep the interest of the viewer.

A Pack
Instead of keeping to the restraints of creating a book/poster, this allows me to be able to create different sized formats, with different content etc. This is also the most interactive option there is for the viewer as there are many elements, all in different medias.

Series of books
A series of books allows me to space out the information and make it a lot less compact than having everything in one book. A series could also include colour coding and a different subject for each, making it easier for the reader to find what they are looking for.

Newspaper
A newspaper is an alternative to a book or booklet. The stock and size is the difference. Newspapers use much thinner stock, but work at a larger scale, and in the case of a broadsheet, a much larger scale. This means there can be a large amount of information & images on pages without it looking too cluttered or overwhelming for the reader.
